Getting better hotel rates
Contracted rates, refundable bookings for visas, the right part of town and the perks worth asking for.

The cheapest room on a booking site isn't always the best deal. Location, cancellation terms and what's included matter as much as the nightly rate.
Location first
A cheaper hotel an hour from everything costs you time and taxis. We look for hotels near the station in Europe, near Marina Bay or Orchard Road in Singapore, or within walking distance of the Haram in Makkah.
Refundable rates for visa applications
Schengen, UK and Japan applications need hotel bookings. Book refundable rates until the visa is approved, then switch to cheaper non-refundable rates if you wish.
Contracted rates
Agents hold contracted rates with hotel groups that are often lower than published prices, especially for longer stays and better rooms.
Ask for the perks
Breakfast, early check-in, late check-out and upgrades are often available through an agent at no extra cost. Honeymooners should always say so.
Keep your loyalty points
Most hotels still credit loyalty points on agent bookings. Give us your membership number.
