Budget international holidays from South India
Short flights, simple visas and good-value hotels: international trips that don't need a big budget.

An international holiday doesn't have to be expensive. From South India, several great trips cost less than a week in some Indian hill stations.
Where your money goes furthest
- Vietnam: excellent food and hotels at low prices, and an easy e-visa.
- Thailand: short flights from Chennai, Bangalore, Kochi and Hyderabad, and plenty of mid-range hotels.
- Sri Lanka: an hour from Chennai or Trivandrum, with tea country and beaches.
- Nepal: no visa for Indian citizens, and great value.
- Malaysia: Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi, often combined with Thailand.
How to keep the cost down
- Travel just outside the peaks: avoid Christmas week, Onam and the summer holidays if you can.
- Fly from the cheapest nearby airport.
- Choose good three-star hotels in central locations.
- Join a group tour for better prices on flights and hotels.
