A valid passport comes before any visa, and many countries need six months' validity and blank pages. Here's how to keep yours ready, whether you live in Trivandrum, Kochi, Calicut, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad or Mumbai.
When to renew
Renew when your passport has less than a year left, or when it's running out of pages, and always before booking an international trip. Many visas are refused or delayed because the passport expires too soon.
The process
Applications are made through the official Passport Seva system: an online form, an appointment at a Passport Seva Kendra or Post Office PSK, and police verification where required.
Documents that cause delays
- Address proof that doesn't match your current address
- Name or date-of-birth differences between documents
- Missing documents for minors, such as both parents' details
Tatkal
