Thorough beats fast

A Canadian visitor visa is applied for online, followed by biometrics at a visa application centre. Processing times are long and vary, so the earlier you apply the better.

Officers look closely at purpose, funds and ties to India. We help you present all three clearly.

01

Visitor visa (TRV)

For tourism and visiting family or friends. Often issued as multiple entry, valid up to ten years or until your passport expires, with each stay usually up to six months.

02

Super visa

For parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents: stays of up to five years at a time, with medical insurance and a host income requirement.

03

Business visitor

Meetings, conferences and trade fairs, with an invitation from the Canadian side. Not for working in Canada.

04

Fees

CAD 100 visa fee plus CAD 85 biometrics per person (CAD 170 maximum for a family applying together), plus the visa centre's charge. Not refunded if refused.

05

Biometrics

Given at a visa application centre after you apply online, usually within 30 days of the instruction letter. Valid for ten years.

06

Processing

Varies widely, from a few weeks to several months. Applicants who have held a Canadian visa in the last ten years, or hold a valid US visa, are often processed faster.

  • Income tax returns (ITR) for the last two or three years
  • Employer's letter with salary, role and approved leave, and recent salary slips
  • Self-employed: business registration, GST certificate and company financials
  • Property documents and other evidence of ties to India
  • Travel history: previous visas for the US, UK, Schengen or Australia
  • Itinerary and accommodation details
  • Visiting family: invitation letter, host's status in Canada and proof of relationship

After you apply

What happens next

After biometrics, the application is assessed online. You may receive a request for more documents or, occasionally, a medical examination. We respond for you, quickly.

If approved, you'll receive a passport request. Your passport goes to the visa centre for the visa to be printed and is returned by courier or for collection. Don't book non-refundable flights until it's back in your hands.

If refused, the letter gives the main reasons. We'll tell you honestly whether a reapplication is worthwhile and what would need to change.

Questions, answered

Everything you might want to know before you get in touch. Can't find it here? Ask us directly.

How long does a Canada visitor visa take from India?

It varies widely, from a few weeks to several months. Applicants with a recent Canadian visa or a valid US visa are often faster. Apply three to six months before travel.

How much is the Canada visitor visa fee?

CAD 100 per person plus CAD 85 for biometrics (CAD 170 maximum for a family applying together), plus the visa centre's service charge.

Can my parents stay longer in Canada?

Parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents can apply for a super visa, which allows stays of up to five years at a time, with medical insurance and a minimum host income.

Do I need to send my passport when applying?

No. You apply online and give biometrics. The passport is only requested after approval, so the visa can be printed.
