It's a fair question: you're handing over your passport, bank statements and personal details. Applying through a reputable agent is safe and often smarter than going alone. Applying through the wrong one can cost you a visa, and sometimes a future one too.
Red flags
- A promise that the visa is guaranteed. No one can promise that.
- Offers to 'arrange' bank balances, job letters or invitations. False documents can lead to bans.
- No physical office, or an office that moves.
- Fees that are vague or change after you've paid.
What a good agent does
- Checks your eligibility honestly, including when not to apply yet
- Gives you a checklist for your case and reviews every document
- Explains the consulate's fee and its own service fee separately
- Books appointments through official channels only
- Keeps your documents secure and deletes copies on request
