UK visa from the UAE: documents, VFS and the eVisa share code

The UAE's most-searched visa: visitor visa or ETA, documents, appointments in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and the UK's digital eVisa.

The UK is the most-searched visa destination from the UAE, peaking in July as families plan summer in London. What you need depends on your passport: a full visitor visa, a simple Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA), or nothing at all. The UK has also moved to digital visas, which changes how you prove your status.

Here's how it works for UAE residents. It reflects the position at the time of writing (October 2026).

Visitor visa or ETA?

The ETA costs £20, is applied for online or through the UK ETA app, usually decided within three working days, and is valid for two years or until your passport expires.

The Standard Visitor visa

For tourism, visiting family and friends, business meetings and short courses. A six-month visa costs £135 (from 8 April 2026). Longer-term visas of two, five and ten years are available for frequent visitors, at higher fees.

The steps

  1. Apply online and pay the fee.
  2. Book a biometrics appointment at the visa application centre in Dubai or Abu Dhabi.
  3. Upload or submit your documents.
  4. Wait for the decision, about three weeks with standard service.

Priority and super-priority services are available at extra cost for faster decisions.

Documents for a visitor visa

  • Passport and old passports
  • UAE residence visa and Emirates ID
  • Salary certificate or employer letter with leave approval
  • Bank statements for the last six months
  • Trade licence and company documents, if self-employed
  • Itinerary and accommodation details
  • If visiting family: an invitation letter and your host's status and address documents
  • For children: birth certificate and parents' consent letters
  • Previous UK, US, Schengen or Canadian visas, which help show your travel history

The eVisa and share codes

The UK is replacing physical visa stickers with digital immigration status. Approved visitors may receive an eVisa linked to a UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account, rather than a vignette in the passport.

  • Create your UKVI account when instructed after approval.
  • Link it to the passport you'll travel on. If you renew your passport, update the account.
  • You can generate a share code to prove your status, for example to an airline or employer.

We explain exactly what applies to you when your decision arrives.

Timing

  • Standard service: about three weeks after biometrics.
  • Summer travel: apply six to eight weeks ahead; July and August are the busiest months.
  • Applications can be made up to three months before travel.

Common reasons for refusal

  • Unclear purpose or an unrealistic itinerary
  • Funds that don't match the trip, or large unexplained deposits
  • Weak ties to the UAE or home country
  • Inconsistent dates or details
  • Not declaring previous refusals for any country

Combining the UK with Europe

The UK is not part of Schengen. If you're adding Paris or Switzerland, you'll need a Schengen visa as well. Apply for the visa with the longer processing time first. See Schengen visa from the UAE.

We prepare your application, book biometrics, review documents and track the decision. See UK visa from the UAE and UK packages.
